Our Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge the ancestral home, culture, and oral teachings of the Treaty 7 signatories which includes the Siksika Nation, Piikani Nation, Kainai Gaa-nah Nation, the Îethka Stoney Nakoda Nation, consisting of the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Good Stoney Bands, and the people of the Tsuut’ina Nation. The City of Calgary is also homeland to the historic Northwest Métis and to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, Métis Nation Battle River Territory, Nose Hill Métis District 5 and Elbow Métis District 6.
It is our greatest joy and honour to be able to serve the diverse community of Calgary, which could not and would not exist without the Indigenous communities that precede it. With this in mind and heart, we extend the furthest depth of our respect and gratitude towards the original caretakers of the Treaty 7 territory, who have inhabited this land since time immemorial and extended us, in good faith, the dignity of sharing in its resources.
Along this path of Truth and Reconciliation, we are committed to honouring the ongoing history of all who belong to the Treaty 7 territories of Southern Alberta, and we acknowledge the sovereignty of all its Indigenous people.
